OUR MISSION
The Sr. Baptista Battig Music Foundation of St. Scholastica’s College believes that music is an essential element of a nation’s quest for peace and progress. Our mission is to promote music as a cultural instrument for social change and development through community-based approaches and to provide financial and in-kind resources by collaborating with other organizations to achieve our common goal.
OUR VISION
Sr. Baptista Battig, OSB, a missionary Benedictine sister and a concert pianist from Germany, is one of the pioneers of formal music education in the Philippines. Sr. Battig established the St. Scholastica’s School of Music in xxxx which has now developed into a full college currently under the deanship of Sr. Mary Placid Abejo, OSB.
Sr. Baptista Battig’s has always envisioned: “the children of the East rise to the level of the children of the west by sustaining the creative incentive of today’s youth, by nurturing the Filipino music talent of tomorrow, and preserving the Philippine music legacy of the past.”
In keeping with the spirit and vision of Sr. Baptista Battig, Sr. Placid together with a group of Scholastican alumnae established the Sr. Baptista Battig Music Foundation in xxxx.
Inspired by this vision, the foundation is primarily dedicated to mobilizing support for grassroots music development among gifted but financially disadvantaged Filipino youth through a variety of educational, professional, and humanitarian community-based programs and activities.
Since xxxx, the foundation has helped transform over xxxx thousands of young lives through music.
OUR OBJECTIVES
- To provide a vehicle for identifying young Filipino musical talent by promoting music in communities through various outreach programs;
- To give out-of-school Filipino youth (or those who face the risk of dropping out of school because of financial difficulty) access to music training and/or 2 or 4 year formal education at St. Scholastica’s College of Music under a scholarship program so they can find gainful employment, become productive, disciplined and self-reliant members of the society;
- To promote Filipino musical talents and provide employment opportunities to them by showcasing their talent through musical expos/events, talent matching locally and globally by extending links to other countries around the world.
- To encourage entrepreneurial opportunities in the music industry here and abroad through private-public partnerships, co-productions, technological innovations and technical collaborations, and by tapping media groups
- To raise the standards of Filipino musical talents through recognition awards and participation in musical competition
