OUTREACH PROGRAMS
Through these programs, the foundation reaches out to underserved communities to promote and support music-making opportunities for children and the youth who have the least access to music education. The programs provide opportunities for the participants to build self-confidence and interpersonal skills, help channel the energies of participating children and youth especially in keeping them away from drugs, foster an appreciation of music, and open doors of opportunity for a better life.
The community outreach programs also allows the foundation to search for deserving young individuals who could qualify for scholarship grants for a 4-year formal education course or a 2-year certificate program at the St. Scholastica’s College of Music.
These outreach programs are music-based instructional modules designed by the Sr. Baptista Battig Music Foundation which can be adopted and implemented in partnership with Local Government Units, NGO’s and Church-based Organizations.
The equity participation of the Foundation is as follows:
- Capacity Building (instructors et. al.)
- Program Modules / Instructions
- Certificate of Completion
The Partner shall provide the following:
- Venue
- Food
- Transportation allowance (for participants and trainors)
- Instruments (may also be provided by the foundation on a case to case basis under its instrument grant program)
- Media mileage (if applicable)
- Private sponsors (if necessary)
Over the past 2 decades, the foundation has given young boys and girls specific training in performance (band and string instruments) and provided them with the opportunities to play as an ensemble in public. These young boys and girls in turn provide cultural and aesthetic upliftment in their respective communities.
The parents as well as the town officials and parish priests have recognized the positive influence that the outreach program has brought about among the youth and within their communities. To date, the significant accomplishments of this training program for the youth are the following:
- School drop outs among them got the incentive to go back to school and have progressed in their academic studies
- A number of them have qualified for high school or college scholarships as band or orchestra members
- A number of them won cash prizes or musical instruments in national competitions
- A number of them have gained employment abroad as musicians while others are gainfully employed in the military band or in municipal or city hall bands
